MEDIEVAL-THEMED TRIPS TO ŁĘCZYCA

Apart from frequent trips to Grotniki, our student society also occasionally visits interesting places around Łódź whose history goes back to the Middle Ages (we owe it to our patron, Geoffrey Chaucer). The most frequent destination of these trips has been Łęczyca - a medieval town north of Łódź. If you were to close your eyes in our faculty building and travel back in time 250 years, you would find yourself in the lands of the voivodeship of Łęczyca, which back then was the most important regional centre.

Łęczyca is famous for the story of the Devil Boruta, and demonology - not just Slavic but also British - has always been close to our hearts. If you haven't yet read the famous Daemonologie by King James VI of Scotland, we suggest you read it with us. The history of magic and demonology is a topic closely related to the history of British literature (as anyone who's read Christopher Marlowe's Doctor Faustus can attest).
